Thanks for the post. It will be interesting to see how to interface C++ with this library.

Any ideas on whether it would be a discussion on C++/ATL/COM Addins versus the XLL interface?

The author of that bit on MSDN is Steve Dalton

That bit on MSDN is a concise summary of some of the features to the Excel C API, but refers to a version of Excel most of us are probably not using yet. The author has a previous, very good, book on the ins and outs of Excel / C++ interfacing. I nearly drove myself crazy with BSTRs before I bought his book. I go out of my way to recommend his book (ISBN#0470024690).

The Excel C API was supposed to have been static, unchanging, etc. since Excel 4 but it has changed in Excel 2007 ("Excel 12"). If you search for "12" in the MSDN text, you'll see lots of new types (e.g. wide character support).

A lot has been added to Excel 2007. It's multithreaded, has a completely new UI and there's more than 255 columns, finally (CSV file users rejoice). I can't remember the last time I gave a hoot about a new version of office, but this one is interesting.

Mr. Dalton's second edition covers Excel 2007 and comes out in June, 2007.

Could you tell us a bit more about this? Like using it in applications, if possible.

Many people would be interested.

Thanks
